Wassail at the Rittenhouse Inn in Bayfield – Featured in the December/ January issue of Lake Superior Magazine!

by Hannah on December 5, 2011

I am so excited about my first full length feature article in a major regional magazine!  Most people don’t know I am both a photographer and a writer, but I do like to do as many things as possible… multi-tasking is what I’m best at ;) .

Lake Superior Magazine asked me to write and shoot an article on the amazing Wassail concerts at the Rittenhouse Inn last winter to help celebrate their 35th anniversary, and I jumped at the chance to document this very special Bayfield winter event.    A VERY short description of Wassail: beautiful Christmas carols are sung to you by a local troupe of singers while you eat truly remarkable food in a fabulously decorated restaurant (seriously – its GORGEOUS) and Jerry Phillips kisses a boars head.  Its an experience not to be missed – for many different reasons.  There is a schedule on their site here:  Wassail Schedule.  Make a reservation soon – they sell out quickly!

The Wassail concert’s history and all the photos are in the December/ January issue of Lake Superior Magazine, but here are a few of my favorites (and the cover shot – which is their first ever food cover)!  I, of course, had to taste test the poached pear dessert.

There is one more thing I have to take a photo of/taste test this winter – and that’s their “The Boar’s Head” Wassail punch.  It has cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, peppercorns, cranberry juice, brown sugar, Bayfield apple cider, and BACON infused bourbon.  I LOVE bacon – mmmmmmmm…  You can get the Wassail premixed (without bourbon… ha!)  here:   Rittenhouse Gift Shop or see their recipe on the Imbibe website.
