John & Shep On Lake Superior

This 19 year old Shep being cradled in his father’s arms earlier this week in Lake Superior. Shep falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. I was so happy I got to capture this moment for John. By the way, John rescued Shep as an 8 month old puppy, and he’s been by his side through many adventures :) .

This Facebook post has gone viral, and I am so excited to welcome new fans from all over!  I am in the midst of crazy season, and had no clue this would take off like it has.  Love to everyone!!  If you are interested in prints, please go here.

  3. I already commented on the website I believe -amazing and made me cry

  4. What a priceless capture. You can see everything that these two are to each other, without a single word. Makes me miss my own little Boy (who looks like a baby wolf and turned 18 years old this year). Am very much looking forward to more of the story about John and Shep. Thanks for posting this.

  5. Amazing photo of the love between a dog and its “dad”. Love all of your work — I will be contacting you next year to do my daughters senior pictures!

  6. This photo is so touching. I get chills just looking at the love, peace, and trust shown by John and Shep… Fabulous photo! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Saw this picture and was so beautiful had to and hope to know story behind and say thank you for your work an posting this. Is one of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. So much conveyed. A picture does paint a thousand words. Every happiness to all. Shepherds are so loyal, so love their people. This is just an honor to see. Reminds me of service dogs, for those with a handicap, or serious chronic illness, what a difference a dog can make, and of those serving in the military and in law enforcement. God bless them and their caregivers. S.

  8. touching… beautiful. unconditional love.

  9. lake superior? is this only a summer ritual?

  19. I love, love, love this photo! Wow! What a wonderful dad. I cannot wait to see more of your work on Shep and his dad. I know his dedication. When you are attached to your furbabies, you do everything you can to make life the best for them, even during their difficult moments. Wish you were local! Your work is beautiful. I have two doxie furbabies. both rescues, I want to be photographed with and up in your neck of the woods you have such wonderful places to take photos! Thanks for sharing and thanks to John and Shep for sharing too.

  20. And ‘the most beautiful love story between a man and his dog I’ve ever heard … I am moved and I felt a great joy in my heart, great Shep and John are very beautiful … :)

  21. Beyond words, Hannah…you have a gift for capturing ‘the moment’ and John not only has Shep, but this lasting memory that speaks to everyone who’s ever been blessed with the unconditional love that a pet offers.

  22. A wonderful amazing image which requires not a single word to show so much love between a human and an animal.

  23. It brings me to tears. So sweet and peacefull!

  24. Quelle magnifique image, Shep est désormais immortelle. . .
Je ne peux m’enpéché de regarder cette photo. Magnifique
Encore bravo pour ce superbe moment de tendresse

  25. Let me know about this man…i really wanna to thanks him (and you for your photo) to have made today a better day…

  26. Seeing this made me so happy. There are still compassionate kindhearted people out there capable of beautiful things. This picture is amazing, captures so well the amazing bond these two have, the kindness on John’s face and the complete trust and enjoyment on Shep’s face…

  27. I couldn’t help but sharing this post on my facebook wall. I hope will give you even more viral-power! I’m a dog lover and this picture is simply fantastic!

  28. Also, would love to read a story about John and Shep and find out if John has a FB page. Not sure if he wants to be “stalked” by animal lovers everywhere, but thought I would try… :)

  29. I was born in Windsor Ontario (now living 64 km. south of Rome Italy) and this photo is so touching. Please follow up on this story. I’m sure you’ll find many more fans. Shep’s friend is a great person, evidently Shep deserves him.

  30. Beautiful story!!!Love!

  31. What a lovely moment, this is love. Thank you for sharing it.

  32. True Love

  33. Beautiful photograph. I think everyone who sees it wants to know more about John &Shep. Wonderful job on this shot!

  34. You captured such a special moment. Lovely

  35. love…really i can think only this looking at your photo….john is a great man with a big heart and shep is his angel…two persons…to say the truth only one person…thanks to both…for showing me so much love <3

  36. This photo is so beautiful! I was very touched by it,so much that I almost cried.I wish John and Shep many more beautiful memories together. And by the way, what a lovely person he is,to be so affectionate,so loving to his pet. I wish him all good things in life.

  37. Such a heart wrenching image. Is this a nightly ritual for them?

  38. I’ve commented on the photo a couple times on the website. The photo has made a tremendous impact on me and so many it seems. It is a scene of “love,” with no words needed. Never seen anything like it and I will never forget it. In fact, I feel a need to look at it everyday. You’re a great photographer with a keen eye as I’ve looked around at much of your work, but I have a feeling that the photo captured an essence that is magical and may be a once in a lifetime. Just love, love, love it. Love your site too.

  39. OMG what a moving picture. Why can’t I meet a good man like this….sigh.Thanks for taking and sharing this photo.

  40. Mutual trust and love. This is so beautiful I just can’t stop crying.

  41. Saw this on fb and then googled it to see if there was any truth to it. After seeing this site and this picture again I teared up and shed tears. It is awesome! That pic says more than ANY words could say. God love ya John for being there for your fam. :o ) God bless!

  42. I want to thank John for his kindness and compassion toward another living creature. If everyone conducted themselves in this way — in even a sliver of their lives — the world would be transformed. As human beings, we are charged with healing when we can and with bringing comfort when we cannot heal. The comfort of the water, and of John’s arms, is evident in this photograph.

  43. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us! This pic made me cry. Words cannot describe what I feel when I look at it. It goes right to the center of my soul.

  44. This is an amazing portrait of the transcendance of true love. Two souls connected by a life of experiences. They know that being completely present, in love, is all there is; nothing else matters.

  45. Beyond Beautiful

  46. Thank you for this incredible photo of my dear cousin John. You have captured the essence of this kind, gentle man. I love you John.

  47. This one pictures completely captures the definition of man’s best friend trusting his Dad to take care of him and give him all that he needs. I have been moved to tears by John’s compassion and his love for his fur baby. What a wonderful relationship. John and Shep were meant to be together. You can see they fulfill each others needs. God Bless both John and Shep and you, Hannah for sharing such a wonderful moment with all of the many dog lovers on Facebook.

  49. Hi Hannah, I’m Mila from Tuscany, Italy.
I just found this photo on FB and I’m falling in love…the history make me cry …I love the dogs and I adore people who love the dogs!
    Hugs

  50. This is love. I can perfectly understand ‘coz I also have a dog who is growing old… My respect, Man.
