John & Shep On Lake Superior

This 19 year old Shep being cradled in his father’s arms earlier this week in Lake Superior. Shep falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. I was so happy I got to capture this moment for John. By the way, John rescued Shep as an 8 month old puppy, and he’s been by his side through many adventures :) .

This Facebook post has gone viral, and I am so excited to welcome new fans from all over!  I am in the midst of crazy season, and had no clue this would take off like it has.  Love to everyone!!  If you are interested in prints, please go here.

  31. it’s easy to see after 19 years their souls are linked. But it seems to see something else. Perhaps when a strong friendship has to face death, the connection between 2 living creatures goes further what we can understand. This quite tear on my face is for you, John and Shep.

  32. Your photo restores my faith in humanity, thankyou for sharing this with the world. You have made us all privvy to an amazingly beautiful bond between two best friends.

  36. inspirational :)

  37. Really hope you follow up on this and give us more on John and Shep. This is truly amazing. Where are they from? This photo strikes me really close to home as I went through a lot with my beagle Tucker as he got older including swimming with him in a rehab pool for months while helping him recover from a torn ACL. What a truly awesome story. Hope you can continue to follow up with John/Shep.

  38. Clearly the DOG and the MAN adore each other. WHY DO YOU then HAVE HUNTING PHOTOS…in which humans separate other animals from their LOVING FAMILIES..? SHAME ON YOU.

  39. This photo brings tears to my eyes! It totally embodies the deep relationship of trust and loyalty so many dog lovers experience!

  40. What a beautiful and emotional photo. We have 2 dogs, who look like Shep, in their golden years. They enjoy hydrotherapy at a local pool and so our family can really relate to this photo. How peaceful they look together. Thank you for sharing this moment.

  41. The love between dogs & owners is like non other, probably because they give so much, yet take so little. It’s wonderful to give back too. A stunning photo, I so hope he carries on being lulled to sleep, painfree, in the warm waters.

  42. I’ve tried hard to understand the relationship between dogs and their humans since it can be such a joy to behold and the only way I can understand it, and I am not a religious person, is that dogs are really angels. To describe their selfless, honest, unconditionally loving beings any other way doesn’t compute for me. This picture of this dog’s sweet human giving back to him is a wonderful sight. Isn’t Lake Superior cold? Lake Michigan sure is….

  43. Stunningly, beautiful moment, brings tears..thank you so much.

  44. This photo captures so much… trust and love. Thanks for sharing – everything about this shot is exqusite. The emotion is palpable.

  48. How beautiful and touching to see the love these two have for each other. The true meaning of living in love, peace and harmony with those around us and caring for our loved ones.

  49. This is love.

  50. I lost my nearly 16 year old chow/golden mix, Fess, in Oct. He had arthritis and one day he could no longer move. I wish I had known of the healing powers of lake superior. I would have done anything to provide him comfort and to provide me with more time with my best friend. This photo speaks to my love for Fess. Thank you so very, very much.
